Overview- The true "God Sim" Spore allows players to start on the microbe level and literally evolve into a interstellar civilization. The game will feature many different levels from the most basic level of your creature's survival to creating a tribal community. Spore includes an extensive creature creation feature that will not only allow players to very easily mold their own creations, but also automatically extrapolate how the creature moves with exceptional life-like qualities. Yet another revolutionary part of the game is it automated content distribution system that will seek other player's creatures to create balanced ecosystems. Whether or not this feature can be manually controlled has not been communicated, although would seem to make an internet connection mandatory.

The game is set to be Will Wright's third revolutionary game after SimCity and The Sims. As of yet there is still some debate as to whether or not the game will be called "SimSpore" or simply Spore, although it is very likely Spore will be the final name as it has already received quite a bit of press with that name. The best information on the game so far has been arriving from Will Wright himself as he makes the rounds at all the yearly annual game conferences, with the official Spore website has been very lax on updates. Although there is a Spore newsletter listed on the official website, as of yet (March 2006) no Spore newsletters have been sent out. Very little is know about the Spore development team except that there is a fair number of women programmers, unusual for any game development. It also appears that gamers can expect handheld versions of the game as well as console derivatives. No ETA is available for any handheld/console version.

The processing power required for Spore will probably be fairly significant, both on the CPU and graphics side of the equation. However, the 2005 GDC video shows Will Wright playing Spore on a laptop, which has suggested to some that the game will not be as resource intensive as one would assume it to be. Expect Spore to run on Windows 2000 and up, although it is possible that it will work on Windows 98/ME as well.
