Narnia in SimCity 4

Created by Andro Cowei

In the spirit of The Lord of the Rings in SimCity 4, this is an undertaking to recreate landmarks from the world of Narnia in SimCity, based on C. S. Lewis' descriptions, and in some cases as seen in the recently released film. Due to a number of issues, including SimCity 4's lack of surface water, I will be using both SimCity 4 and SimCity 3000 to do this, with the ideal game being chosen for each landmark.

I began reading the Chronicles of Narnia in 1993, and they have been my most cherished stories ever since. Narnia became the model for my daydreams, and though my own dear fantasy world has been influenced heavily by many other stories since, Narnia was always the cornerstone in the back of my mind.

1/1/06 - The Stone Table by Night is now available for viewing and download!

12/31/05 - The Stone Table (broken) added. Happy new year.

12/25/05 - Today I am pleased to finally have something to post, and it is no accident that it is Christmas Day, because that is the day a vital ingredient appears in SimCity 4: snow.

Lamppost

Yes, I could change the date in the computer clock. I'll probably instead switch to the Arctic Terrain mod from Simtropolis. My comments? First, the only suitable lamppost in the game naturally doesn't look like the one in the film. That's what the yellow bit is for... never mind. The children don't look like blitz refugees, and the game only has running and gesturing children, not children slowly walking in wonder! The trees' shadows are too strong, and there is no way to cover them in snow (or paper pulp) without making them from scratch. I am moderately happy with the results so far.

Narnia in SimCity 3000

This is a brightened screenshot of my Narnia terrain for SimCity 3000, which I hope to offer for download soon, with parks as markers for the buildings I want to create during the remaining weeks of my Christmas break. Both the SC3K and SC4 versions use a single large terrain, in the latter case to avoid rectification issues (especially when loading the terrain) and keep everything easy to manage, since there will be no great structures on a map this scale. I intend to introduce some basic grading of the land back from the coast in the SimCity 3000 terrain, since its surface water allows rivers at altitude, unlike SC4's sea-level-only water table.
